Description

Rim locks help keep your tire from spinning on the rim under hard acceleration and heavy braking — something electric dirt bikes are especially prone to because of instant torque. When a tire slips on the rim, it can tear valve stems, throw off balance, and cause sudden air loss. Rim locks clamp the tire bead in place so your tire stays seated and your tube stays put.

For e-motos running lower tire pressure for traction, rim locks add an extra layer of security and help prevent unwanted tire movement when putting power down.

Why Rim Locks Matter on E-Motos

  • Helps prevent tire slip under high torque

  • Protects tubes and valve stems from tearing

  • Improves reliability when running lower tire pressure

  • Useful for aggressive trail riding, track riding, and hill climbs

  • Simple, proven solution used across motocross and off-road riding

How to Measure for the Correct Rim Lock Size

Rim locks are sized based on rim width, not tire size.

  1. Check your rim size
Look for the marking on your rim (example: 1.6 x 19, 1.85 x 18, etc.)
The first number (1.6, 1.85, 2.15, etc.) is the rim width.

  2. Match the rim lock to your rim width

    • 1.60 rim → 1.60 rim lock

    • 1.85 rim → 1.85 rim lock

    • 2.15 rim → 2.15 rim lock

  3. Front vs Rear

    • Most e-moto rears use wider rims and larger rim locks

    • Some riders choose to run rim locks front and rear for extra security

Important Installation Notes / Disclaimer

⚠️ Some e-moto wheels do not come pre-drilled for rim locks.
Installing a rim lock may require drilling an additional hole in the rim.

  • Drilling should be done carefully and precisely

  • Improper drilling can damage the rim or compromise wheel strength

  • Always deburr and seal drilled holes to prevent tube damage
